Ordained a priest himself against all odds, he spent the rest of his life as the pastor of the tiny village of Ars, where, through his personal holiness and sacrifice, he converted not just the entire population of the town, but countless pilgrims from near and far. A hundred thousand people a year came to Ars just to be in the presence of a saint, to have their sins forgiven through confession, and to hear him preach.
