THE STORY 

In 1531, on a hill in Mexico, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Juan Diego. “Go to the bishop and tell him to build me a sacred little house here, where I will show my son Jesus to the people of this land.”

The bishop did not believe this Aztec peasant, until Juan Diego opened his cloak to reveal the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe miraculously imprinted on the fabric. Finally convinced the bishop obeyed Mary’s command. 

500 years later, her image on the tilma (or cloak) of Saint Juan Diego is still intact and venerated by millions.
